Is a committee the best way?

by on Feb.27, 2010, under Uncategorized

So.. I just finished with “bid selection” where out of a very large number of bids, across three divisions, we have to select the few teams that will be playing at an Ultimate Frisbee tourney that I help run.
Walking away at the end of the night, I felt very “meh” about how well it had gone.. I didn’t feel that it went the way I wanted it to at all.. and I at first thought this was a bad thing.
After talking to a few others, it became apparent that we all felt much the same.. though much later, to think upon it.. no one person got their way. I can easily recall every individual on the committee being unhappy with some decision that was made (sometimes plenty of decisions). So the question is.. did it actually go poorly? Or really, did it run exactly as it should have?
I mean.. no individuals agenda took precedence.. every one had a vote, everyone had something happen they were happy about, and everyone was unhappy about some decision. As much as I would like to say it didn’t go well.. (as I expect others might want to say as well) I have to acknowledge that maybe.. just maybe, this whole committee thing worked EXACTLY the way it was supposed to.
